Mining
Since the introduction of the Hitachi UH801 mining shovel in 1979, more than 400 mining excavators over 150 tons have been delivered to all parts of the world. Today, Hitachi mining excavators are one of the strongest brand names in the mining industry.
Introduction

Why choose Hitachi? There are at least five reasons and benefits :
- High Availability
- Low Operating Costs
- Better Fuel Economy
- Better Flexibility
- Lower Maintenance Requirements
There are two key phrases :
- Hitachi's Design Philosophy
- Mutual Trust
The “Hitachi Design Philosophy” is to design equipment in accordance with the following objectives : high reliability and high performance, and fulfilling our customers' requirements for high productivity at low operating cost.
“Mutual Trust” is, to achieve a Win-Win-Win situation with our customers. Hitachi dealers and Hitachi. To achieve this, we maintain a long term business partnership with the customer and establish a joint task force (“Let's walk together” spirit) to minimize unexpected downtime and reduce operating costs, such as maintenance and repair.
Of course, we always consider our customers' views and needs, and reviewing equipment performance in various mining applications. To achieve a closer working relationship with our customers, in July 2003, Hitachi established the Global Mining Centre (GMC) in North America.
Today, Hitachi is not only an excavator supplier, but also a supplier of rigid dump trucks that are based on Euclid's experience and Hitachi's keywords and philosophy.
In Africa more and more mining projects are being developed to meet the world wide demand for natural resources. Hitachi Construction Machinery Southern Africa ensures that customer requirements in Sub-Sahara Africa are met with high quality products and support. In addition, a local manufacturing facility has been established to build excavator buckets, dump truck bodies, water tankers and bottom dump coal haulers to meet specific customer requirements.
The current range of Hitachi hydraulic mining shovels/backhoe excavators and Hitachi (Formerly Euclid-Hitachi) off-highway rigid frame dump trucks have been backed by Hitachi's most dynamic and responsive service and support network world wide.
