Control of Arc Phenomena in GMAW by Information Processing
2001.08 Japan Welding Society by Hikaru Yamamoto, Yutaka Takano, (Saitama Uni) Kenji Ooshima and Toshi Yamane
Recently, due to the shortage and aging of experienced manpower, the development of robot-controlled automatic arc welding has been encouraged. With automatic welding, accurate sensing of the welding phenomena is particularly important. Consequently further improvements in the accuracy of sensing and advanced performance are highly desirable to achieve better quality welding. In order to secure high quality and stable welding regardless of variations in the position of the base metal or the molten pool relative to the torch, it is essential to keep the arc length short and constant. The goal of the study described here is to sense the arc length and the wire extension of the electrode in real time and to design a versatile system applicable to the steady state as well as the transient state, using a simple model based on a neural network.
