History

HCM was established in 1970, when Hitachi, Ltd. spun off its construction machinery division. When it was still part of Hitachi more than 50 years ago, HCM was involved in the production of Japan's first mechanical excavator.

Currently, the 58 companies that comprise the HCM Group are using IT as a strategic management resource to provide total solutions for customers' needs. In this way, HCM continues to grow as a strong, global, competitive enterprise.

Entered technical collaboration with Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. in the area of crawler cranes

Established Euclid-Hitachi Heavy Equipment Inc. in the United States Released five models in the EX3 series of hydraulic excavators

Established Hefei Hitachi Excavators Co., Ltd. in the city of Hefei, China Moved into the area of off-road dump trucks

Released three models in the EX5 series of hydraulic excavators

Issued 20 billion yen worth of domestic straight bonds

Won the Ichimura Prize for the EX3500

Developed the EX5500, a super-size hydraulic excavator in the 515-ton class, the largest class in the world Received ISO 14001 certification for environmental management system

Upgraded South African sales agency to fully-owned subsidiary

Purchased control of the U.S. company Euclid-Hitachi Heavy Equipment, Inc. from Volvo Construction Equipment N.V.

HCM's FA Division, engaged in the manufacture and sales of such products as ultrasonic imaging devices, established independently as Hitachi Kenki FineTech Co., Ltd.

Business tie-up with TCM Corporation in the area of wheel loaders

Head Office relocated from 2-6-2 Otemachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo to present location

Released the ZAXIS series of "e-excavators"

ZAXIS series won grand prix at the 2000 Nikkei Superior Products and Services Awards.
