Independent holding of Quality gleaning at group manufacturing companies

"Quality gleaning" is named after a painting called "The Gleaners" by Millet. It is a processes where incidents and defects of products for which measures have already been taken are examined once again to try to prevent any reoccurrence, by revealing the underlying cause and implementing more measures.

Previously, quality gleaning was performed in accordance with plans prepared by the Quality Assurance Center of Tsuchiura Works, the mother plant. Group manufacturing companies started planning quality gleaning by themselves in March 2008 when our Quality Assurance Center drew up the quality gleaning manual.

In fiscal 2008, five factories of four group companies in Japan, namely Hitachi Construction Machinery Tierra, Hitachi Construction Machinery Camino, Hitachi Sumitomo Heavy Industries Construction Crane and TCM's Ryugasaki factory and Shiga factory, conducted quality gleaning by themselves. Hitachi Construction Machinery Indonesia and Hitachi Construction Machinery (China) also carried out the quality gleaning by themseleves. All of the factories performed quality gleaning in accordance with the quality gleaning manual without any serious problems. Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) and Hitachi Construction Truck Manufacturing are due to perform quality gleaning in fiscal 2009 or later. Based on the good performance of quality gleaning at the factories so far, it will be possible to do quality gleaning annually at every factory of the group companies in the future.
