Becoming a principal sponsor for the excavator operator competition

The final of the National Excavator Operator Competition '09 organized by the New Zealand Master Builders Federation took place over the two days of March 13 and 14, in a town called Feilding, a distance of about two hours by car from the New Zealand capital, Wellington. Cable Price, our group company in New Zealand, became the principal sponsor for the competition. The competitors, who were winners of heats held in nine regions covering the whole of New Zealand, competed in the final using an ZX120-3 hydraulic excavator provided by Cable Price.

The participants competed in basic excavator operator skills such as loading sand and wood, scooping out water, suspending a manhole, and also in fun games that included pouring cups of tea, basketball dunk shooting into a concrete pipe and writing the sponsor's name using a brush. The competitors were also tested for their ability in worksite management, safety compliance, worksite planning, checks and maintenance of machinery. An All Blacks version of the excavator appeared in the competition. Our excavators carried out a range of tasks smoothly one after another in front of a large audience. This was a good opportunity to show off the high performance of our products.
