Increase in reuse of construction machinery

Reducing the amount of waste is vital to materialize a recycling-oriented society where the consumption of resources and the impact on the environment are low. The elements of waste reduction are the 3Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle).

Hitachi Construction Machinery Trading operates a used machine sales business, which means it contributes to the reuse element of the 3Rs. They work hard to promote the reuse of construction machines.

In fiscal 2008, they constructed a new auction site called Tokyo Center in Sakura, Chiba Prefecture, for the benefits of improved access and a better storage place for used construction machinery. Customers really appreciate Tokyo Center because of the following features, which are better than those of the previous Furukawa Center. In addition, many trees are planted around the Tokyo Center to reduce noise as a measure for local residents.

  1. The size of the premises of Tokyo Center is more than three times larger than that of Furukawa Center. Tokyo Center can accommodate about a thousand used machines.
  2. There is a fully equipped machine washing place.
  3. There are a large car park with a capacity of about a hundred cars, and a building that is used exclusively as a reception for auctions for ease of use by customers.
  4. Tokyo Center is near Narita Airport, so it is convenient for overseas customers.
  5. The cost of transporting used machines is less because of good access to the Port of Yokohama.

They held parade auctions for the first time at Tokyo Center on February 28 and March 1, 2009. One of the aims of the auctions was publicizing the opening of Tokyo Center to customers. Even though the second day was a rainy day, a total of 830 people from 350 companies - numbers that greatly exceeded their expectations - came to the auctions over the two days. The auction was successful with total bids of 1,660(Yen) million.

They will strive to further expand the used machine business by making the most of Tokyo Center, and to contribute to reducing the consumption of resources and the impact on the environment by promoting the reuse of machines.
