Zero emission achievements

Six factories of our group achieved the zero emission target in fiscal 2008. These factories included our Hitachinaka Works in addition to five factories that achieved zero emission also in the previous year, namely our Kasumigaura Works, Shiga factory of Hitachi Construction Machinery Tierra, Hitachi Construction Machinery Camino, Tadakiko, Mibu factory of TCM.

We define the term "zero emission" in our group as being the disposal of 1% or less by volume of the total waste generated and a maximum weight of less than 5t a year of industrial waste, general waste and valuable waste generated. Our group endeavors to reduce the amount of waste to be disposed of by setting a difficult target, considering the scarcity of final disposal landfill sites.
