Energy saving in transportation of products, etc.

We make efforts to save enegy in the transportation of products, etc., as one of the types of consignors specified by the revised Law Concerning the Rational Use of Energy.

In fiscal 2008 we significantly reduced the distance traveled for transportation by manufacturing large and ultra-large products destined for export at Hitachinaka-Rinko Works, which is located next to a port , in addition to implementing measures to reduce fuel consumption such as optimizing the vehicles used for transportation and driving in a way that reduces the fuel consumption. The CO2 emission during transportation declined because of the measures to reduce the fuel consumption stated above and because of cutbacks in production due to the economic crisis. At the same time, there has been a rise in the amount of transportation that does not contribute to sales, such as the transportation needed for the remodeling of products that is required because of changes in destinations affected by the economic crisis. As a result, using the unit of quantity of emissions per sales, in fiscal 2008 the figure was 3.05t of CO2 per 100 million yen. This was an increase of 0.9t of CO2 per 100 million yen, compared to fiscal 2007. The target for fiscal 2008 was met as the increase did not exceed 3% because of the effects of the measures to cut the fuel consumption.

CO2 emissions during transportation

Our group will continue to endeavor to save energy in transportation by implementing a range of measures, although there are some fluctuations caused by temporary confusion in production.
