Participation in CO2 emissions trading
In fiscal 2005, the Ministry of the Environment set up a domestic voluntary emissions trading project - the first extensive CO2 emissions trading project in Japan. Our Tsuchiura Works participated in the domestic voluntary emissions trading project for fiscal 2007 (the 3rd term). The plant switched from using heavy crude oil and LPG to LNG to cut its emissions of CO2. Figures produced by independent investigators showed that Tsuchiura Works emitted about 1,000t less CO2 than the originally allotted quantity in fiscal 2008. We are planning to trade this reduction in emissions in fiscal 2009.
