Sustainability Compass
Hitachi Group has based its participation in conserving the environment on Eco-Value Plan 2010 which was devised in FY2001, which aims to materialize a green frontier (independent sustainable local societies) where independent local communities prevent deterioration of the environment by 2010. In FY2005 - right in the middle of the ten-year plan - planned activities were revised and targets were set for 2015, considering world trends such as projects to reduce CO2 in the air to a maximum of 550ppm, and Millennium Development Goals(*). The Sustainability Compass, which shows the principles of the activities aimed to conserve the environment was revised accordingly. In accordance with Hitachi Group policy we have acted to conserve the environment with the new Sustainability Compass as a principle from FY2006.
(*)1Millennium Development Goals are development targets for the 21st century agreed at the UN Millennium Summit in New York, in September 2000, with 189 countries participating. The eighth Millennium Development Goals include eradication of extreme poverty and starvation; the seventh is sustainability of the environment.
