Mental health management training

The number of working people on temporary leave because of mental problems is increasing in Japan. Therefore, occupational health physicians have been providing mental health consultations at our offices and factories. In addition, we set up the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) in July 2007. Our group companies in Japan also adopted the EAP in rapid succession, so now all of our group companies but one run the program.

In the first half of fiscal 2008, we provided fifteen mental health management training sessions between June 20 and September 16 to 529 people in management or in managerial equivalent positions as part of efforts in mental health care by line management. At the training sessions, attendees learned the basics of depression and other mental illnesses and the necessity of care provided by managers, and tried to acquire the communication skills needed to provide such care through role play.

As a comprehensive mental health measure, we will distribute booklets on self-care to our employees.
