VEC for models complying with Tier 4 exhaust emission regulations
Our group is developing new models, which comply with the Tier 4 exhaust emission regulations that are due to come into effect in 2011 (April of that year in Europe, and October in Japan). Responding to the development, we are promoting VEC (Value Engineering for Customers) activities for the models.
VE (Value Engineering) during the planning / development stage is called the first look VE. Although it is more difficult to have a concrete image in the first look VE than in the second look VE (VE after designing), the effectiveness of the first look VE is said to be greater than that of the second look VE because of fewer restrictions.
We have set a cost target based on the results of analyses of functions that customers truly value when they assess prices, which we have come to know by asking customers. We have not met the prices we initially targeted because of the difficult market conditions where the prices of materials such as steel and components remain at high levels. In fiscal 2009 we will powerfully enhance VEC to meet the set targets.
