1st Oceania & Asia service skill contest in Singapore

Raising the skills of service staff who directly contact with customers is important to raise customer satisfaction. As part of this effort, Hitachi Construction Machinery Asia and Pacific (HMAP) held the 1st Oceania & Asia service skill contest, on April 24 and 25, 2008, in Singapore.

Service skill contests are already held in Japan and China with the aim of raising the skills and motivation of service staff. The contests play an extremely important role as the control systems of our group products become increasingly sophisticated, requiring a high-level of service skill. Considering this, HMAP, which manages group companies in Oceania and Asia, decided to hold a service skill contest from this year. Problems faced by HMAP in staging the contest included the different languages of the competitors and the lack of a place for tests using machinery. However, HMAP product support members made the contest possible by collaborating with each other to solve these problems.

Competitors were ranked using the total of the scores from the skill test and the paper test, in the same way as for the contests held in Japan and China. Twelve skilled service staff from Hitachi Construction Machinery (Australia), Cable Price in New Zealand, Hitachi Construction Machinery (Malaysia), Hitachi Construction Machinery (Thailand) and Hexindo Adiperkasa (Indonesia) competed. They demonstrated their ability and tried to improve their skills even further by exchanging information.
