Our employee is cooperating with the eco-cap activity

When we dump pet bottles, the production volume of which is about 25 billion, it is important to remove their labels and caps. Regarding the caps, if we dump them as general waste after removing them from the pet bottles, they are incinerated and 3,150g CO₂ is generated per 400 caps. Ecocap Movement, an incorporated NPO, conducts an eco-cap activity and provides vaccines to children in developing countries through collection and sales of the caps and donation of the sales profits for children's vaccines. This activity aims to reduce environmental load and contribute to society. 800 caps (2 kg) earn 20 yen, which covers the polio vaccine of one child.

In our office, Ms. Sato, our employee of business planning office, cooperated with the eco-cap activity individually. But there are problems that she cannot collect many caps, and that the cost of sending caps is higher than the profit of selling caps. Sekisui Chemical Co., Ltd. introduced the eco-cap activity to our CSR department and gave us a transparent trash box for cap collection, which is their product, in February, 2009. Then we started colleting caps beside a vending machine. Since then we have been collecting two 70 litter bag of caps. In addition, we can make use of routine-run collection by Ecocap Movement in cooperation with the labor union of NTT DOCOMO INC. who is located at the same building as our head office.

Ms. Sato is collecting caps as a volunteer activity now. We will continue to support the activity because the activity is not only reducing environmental load and but also contributing to society.
