Overview

Customer Name:
Sugisaki Kiso Co., Ltd.
Business field:
Foundation work
Product:
SRD25 reverse circulation drill
(based on Hitachi ZX70 hydraulic excavator)

Japan

Project Outline

Shinjuku Terminal

Shinjyuku Terminal, which is Japan’s largest terminal that serves around 3.5 million people each day. At Shinjuku Terminal, a host of railways, subways, highways, and lifelines intercross in multiple stories.

The redevelopment of Shinjuku Terminal is now under way. It is a big 10-year project started in 2000 to widen the existing highways (from 30 m to 50 m), and build a new terminal building and a 1.4-hectare multi-story overhead structure, containing parks, bus terminal and parking lots, bridged over busy railways and subways.

Why Hitachi

The SRD25 reverse circulation drill at work

The customer needs to place foundation piles in restricted space and height at the project site. To this end, the contractor specified the adoption of the reverse circulation drill (RCD) method.

In response to the customer’s request, Hitachi provided an optimum solution: the SRD25 reverse circulation drill which is specifically tailored to the job needs.

Product Features

Drilled hole by the SRD25

The Hitachi SRD25 reverse circulation drill is designed on the basis of the Hitachi ZAXIS70 hydraulic excavator. It is compact, mobile and powerful, with maximum height of a mere 4.5 m. More specifically, the SRD25 features noiseless, high-precision, large-bore, and deep-hole drilling, achieving cast-in-place piling.

The SRD25 has efficiently worked in tight daily schedule from 1:00 a.m. (last train time) to 4:30 a.m. (first train time), demonstrating its overwhelming performance.

What’s RCD Method

The RCD method is one of cast-in-place piling methods.

A downhole is drilled with a bit and filled with water; dug soil is pumped up together with water to the ground; steel reinforcement is inserted into hole; and concrete is poured into hole to form a cast-in-place pile. The RCD method is suitable for cast-in-place piling in tight space.
