Putting the ZX350H to work with Gumdale Demolition
With over thirty years experience in the industry, Gumdale Demolition are known as one of Queensland’s premier demolition solutions companies. The Brisbane based company has recently taken delivery of their very first Hitachi machine, a Zaxis-3 350H. Already hard at work, the machine features many custom fittings, such as a FOPS cab for maximum operator safety, front safety guards, and a heavy-duty pulverizer. Solutions spoke to Trevor Lyons, Managing Director of Gumdale Demolition, and President of theDemolishers, Recyclers & Asbestos Contractors Association of Queensland, about what made him decide on their new machine.
Trevor’s operator Bruce Hetherington cites the machine’s comfort and responsiveness as its most impressive aspects. Compared to other machines in his fleet, Trevor says that the productivity is “similar, but fuel economy has vastly improved.” Trevor is exceptionally pleased with the fuel burn? It currently averages 29 L/hr, according to Hitachi eService monitoring. He says this amounts to about an extra days worth of work per week, and is a huge saving on his previous machines.

At the start of the job

Used on a wide range of demolition projects, we asked if the ZX350H has met his requirements in the field? “Definitely,” he says, describing the machine as “bloody marvelous!” We’ll leave the final words to Trevor: “Gumdale has, for a long time, used Caterpillar equipment which has provided great service so we were unsure about a change to another brand, and only after in-depth talks with Hitachi sales rep Ian Turner and consultation with other Hitachi users in the field did we make the change; and we’re happy we did.”
